Doing Things Better, Together
In the fall of 2006, several church leaders met with the principal of Truman Elementary and asked a simple question with far-reaching effects: How can we do things better together?
Since then church members and attenders have been volunteering at the school in the lunch buddy program, tutoring, and at events like curriculum nights and school carnivals. Once a month we serve espressos, teas, and hot chocolates to onsite staff. The school is also the setting for an annual community Easter Egg Hunt.
The partnership with Truman provided a model for similar partnerships with several other elementary schools. We now also have similar relationships with Minnehaha Elementary, Ogden Elementary, Walnut Grove Elementary, and Gaiser Middle School.
For more information about any of these activities, or to volunteer (just try it a time or two to see if it is your thing), contact the church office and we’ll put you in touch with the right people.
