OUR STAFF AND LEADERSHIP
OUR STORY
In 1987, from a small group period of looking for a new church home, a group began meeting as what would be called Northside Baptist Church, in a grange hall. Norm Ellyson was Pastor at the time. They met there for several years, eventually buying the 5201 Minnehaha property and building their first building by 1994.
In 2002, Tim Crownover was called as the new Senior Pastor of NBC. In a season of reflection the leadership and church asked, "if we were to no longer exist, would our community notice?". This led to several years of adjusting and implementing new strategies to be active in the Vancouver community with Gospel. From deep bonds with schools to church in the park, NBC began thinking out of the box in their approach to making disciples. With significant costly repairs needed on the building, it was decided that it was time to look for a new meeting place.
Around 2014, the building was sold to Father’s House Church and Northside began meeting at Minnehaha elementary school as a mobile church. Proving the church is not the building, NBC continued to be active in the community but also active in seeking a permanent home.
In 2016, they purchased the Mason Temple at 2500 NE 78th St. where extensive renovations would take place, completely remodeling the interior to form a worship center, fellowship hall, industrial kitchen, offices, and classrooms. After 20 years of service, Pastor Tim announced his retirement. There were 2 shorter term Pastors who helped the church navigate this new season. Eventually they started a new chapter and soon settled on the name Gathering Church. In 2024, Austin White came to be our new Pastor.
Whether a no building, a new building, pastor, no pastor, old name, or new name, the church has always continued to be the church with a passion to people in Vancouver and around the world come to know Jesus and grow in their walk with Him.
